CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - The Wilson College men's soccer team won in dominating fashion against visiting Gallaudet University on a cool and windy afternoon at Kris's Meadow. The 2-0 victory over the Bison was the second win on the season for the Phoenix.

The Phoenix offense was aggressive and balanced in the first half as five different players fired shots in the first 15 minutes of action. The Bison goalkeeper handled the barrage of shots until freshman Landon Cook (Cumming, Ga., South Forsyth) ripped a shot from just inside the arc, past the goalie and into the back of the net to put the Phoenix ahead 1-0 in the 28th minute. Cook was assisted on the play by fellow freshman Carson Tagner (Sound Beach, N.Y., Rocky Point). The Phoenix would continue to put the pressure on the Bison defense taking another four shots, but headed into the break leading 1-0. For the half, the Phoenix out shot the Bison 13-4.

The pressure from the Phoenix offense continued in the second half and less than five minutes in, Tagner took a corner kick and found freshman Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) in front of the goal. Russ was able to sneak one past the Bison goalie and extended the Phoenix lead to 2-0. The Bison offense was slowed all day by a suffocating Phoenix defense and was never able to get one by freshman goalie Michael Martin (Martinsburg, W.Va., Musselman ) who tallied 6 saves in goal.

For the match the Phoenix held a 21-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

With the victory the Phoenix improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the NEAC, while the Bison slip to 1-5-2 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Wilson is back in action this Saturday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to play Keuka College.
