Phoenix Notch 1st Ever Win in Men's Soccer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College men's soccer team notched the first ever win in program history defeating Bryn Athyn College by a final score of 3-0. 

While the action was fast and physical in the first half, neither team was able to get on the board leading to a scoreless tie at halftime. But the scoring started quickly in the 2nd half as freshman Justin Teague (Atlanta, Ga. , Allatoona) found the back of the net, with an assist from fellow freshman Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford ), just a minute and twenty-six seconds in. That goal, which gave the team its first lead of the season, really ignited a fire and the Phoenix never looked back. Later in the half, freshman Carson Tagner  (Sound Beach, N.Y., Rocky Point) would feed freshman Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) from the top and Russ would beat the Lions goalie and push the Phoenix lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute. The defense would play tough for the next several minutes leading to another opportunity on offense for Teague as he would take an assist from freshman Landon Cook (Cumming, Ga., South Forsyth) for his 2nd goal of the match and extend the Phoenix lead to 3-0.

The Phoenix held a 19-15 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge on corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Michael Martin (Martinsburg, W.Va., Musselman ) stopped all 5 shots he faced.

Wilson improves to 1-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in the NEAC, while Bryn Athyn drops to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the NEAC.

Wilson will be back in action tomorrow when they face off with PSU Abington at home with a 12 p.m. start.
