Phoenix Denied By Wildcats

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Wilson College Men's Soccer team competed on the road at Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference Association action and were defeated by the host Wildcats 3-1.

Snow was in the air on this cold October afternoon as the Phoenix looked to get back in the win column against a good Wildcats squad. Both teams would create scoring opportunities early on, but it was the Wildcats Jordan Davis who would score first. The Phoenix defense was called for a penalty in the box setting up the penalty kick by Davis who would find the back corner of the net and put the Wildcats ahead 1-0 in the 26th minute. The Phoenix would respond just before the half as freshman Carson Tagner  (Sound Beach, N.Y., Rocky Point) would find classmate Justin Teague (Atlanta, Ga. , Allatoona) with a cross and Teague would rip a shot past the Wildcat keeper to even the score at 1-1.

The teams traded possessions for much of the second half until midway through when the Wildcats Conor Cahalan took a pass from Ryan Mollura and knocked a shot in on the left side giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage. Less than two minutes later Kyrollos Fekry took a cross from Tawan Chalalai and put the header into the net and scored the final goal of the contest.

For the match the Wildcats held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal and a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks.

With the loss Wilson falls to 2-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NEAC, while Cazenovia improves to 7-7 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

Wilson will return to action on Wednesday, October 21, at 4 p.m. when they travel to Penn State Berks.
