(LATHAM, N.Y.) – The United East has announced its weekly awards and Wilson men's volleyball has swept the honors this go-around with
Ryan Koontz taking offensive and
Jackson Wolfe taking defensive accolades. This is Koontz's first time receiving a Player of the Week award, while Wolfe earns his third this year and first on the defensive side. Together the duo helped Wilson secure the No. 2 seed for the Phoenix in the United East Championship with a sweep of Immaculata on Monday.
Koontz (York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) led a balanced attack with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .556 in the regular season finale on Monday. The junior outside hitter was also strong defensively with nine digs. Koontz has been a leader on offense all season and one of the main reasons the Phoenix are second in the conference in team hitting percentage.
Wolfe (Abbottstown, Pa. / New Oxford) had an incredible match in the regular season as he made six blocks against the Immaculata attack on Monday in a sweep by Wilson. Thanks in part by Wolfe, Immaculata hit less than .050 in two of the three sets. The sophomore outside hitter was strong offensively as well with 11 kills while hitting .417. This is the seventh weekly accolade for Wolfe in his career.
The Phoenix will host No. 3 Cairn in the United East Championship semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
