(LATHAM, N.Y.) – For the fourth time this season and third time in a defensive role,
Armani Jones has been named the United East Player of the Week by the conference office. The senior forward helped Wilson to a split week as the Phoenix nearly upset Notre Dame before taking down Gallaudet on Saturday.
The Chicago native averaged 8.5 rebounds while providing four steals and four blocks. Two of those blocks and all four steals came in a nailbiter at Notre Dame on Wednesday, putting the Phoenix in position to upset one of the top teams in the league. He was also a rebound shy of a double-double.
On Saturday, Jones put the Blue and White back in the win column with another incredible performance as he pulled in eight rebounds and made two more blocks.
Jones was solid on the offensive end as well with an average of 25 points per game. He totaled 27 against the Gators while shooting 11-for-22 from the field and followed up with 23 points on a day where he made 7-for-8.
Jones and the Phoenix will return to action on Wednesday as they host Penn State Brandywine. The date of the game has been postponed because of inclement weather. Tipoff is still scheduled for 5 p.m.
