Men's Hoops Season Comes To Close In Quarterfinals

(LANCASTER, Pa.) – The Wilson men's basketball team pulled off a stunning upset when they faced top-seeded Lancaster Bible at home in the regular season, but the eighth-seeded Phoenix couldn't rekindle the magic in the playoff rematch Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix hoped to unplug the Chargers for a second time this season, but LBC raced out to an early lead and never looked back en route to the United East semifinals.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 72, Lancaster Bible 117

Venue: Horst Athletic Center

Records: Wilson 10-17; Lancaster Bible 20-6

How It Happened
  • The Chargers got off to a quick start with an 11-0 lead after an Austin Nile 3-pointer three minutes into the contest before Jalen Bowie put up the first points of the day for Wilson with a 2-point layup. Bowie recorded his third straight double-double scoring 14 points and leading the Phoenix with 11 rebounds.
  • Armani Jones (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Christ The King / Bryant and Stratton) tried to spark a Phoenix rally in the final seven minutes of the first half with a slam dunk off an assist from Jalen Bowie (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Frederick / Shippensburg), but by the halftime break the Chargers had built a 55-22 lead.
  • Wilson could not turn the momentum coming out of the half as LBC scored the first four points and continued to add to its lead until the late stages of the second half.
Inside The Numbers
  • Jones led the Phoenix in scoring with 16 points on the day.
  • Bowie had a strong day with a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

  • Jalen Pierce (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate / Millersville) was a point shy from double-figures and paced the team with six assists.
  • LBC was paced by Camden Hurst with 22 points.
  • LBC hit 57.1% (48/84) of its field goals while sinking an impressive 14 3-pointers on 25 attempts (56%)
