(LATHAM, N.Y.) – The final weekly awards have been announced by the United East conference office and Wilson's
Julia Wilkes (Abingdon, Md. / John Carroll) has been named Pitcher of the Week for softball. Wilkes was nothing short of stellar as she led the Phoenix to a win over Cedar Crest with a no-hitter in Game 1 of their doubleheader in Sunday's regular season finale.
In her first appearance in 25 days after sustaining an injury, the first-year hurler fanned nine Falcons on 82 pitches in a six-inning blanking. She issued just two walks in the contest, but not a single Cedar Crest runner made it past second base in the game.
Three of the innings saw Wilkes throw multiple strikeouts highlighted by all three batters going down swinging in the third. It capped a string of five consecutive punch outs after the last two batters of the second also went down swinging.
It was the first no-hitter for the Blue and White in exactly three years with current assistant coach
Megan Potter tossing a no-no against Notre Dame in 2022.
With the win, Wilkes improved to 6-0 in her rookie season. She is fourth in the United East with a .211 batting average by opponents and fifth in the league with a 2.07 ERA.
Wilkes and the Phoenix will host a first round single elimination game as the No. 7 seed against No. 10 Rosemont in the United East Championship on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
