(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – More postseason honors have come in for a pair of softball players as
Katelyn Keller (Orrtanna, Pa. / Gettysburg) and
Carleigh Magers (Mount Airy, Md. / Urbana were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team. The Wilson duo were both selected to the third team with 39 student-athletes – 13 per team – receiving honors in all.
The Phoenix were one of 10 schools to have multiple selections. They were also one of five United East schools to be represented. Keller and Magers were also just two of nine first year players to make the list, and two of three from the United East along with Penn State Harrisburg's Madisen Minney.
Both players add this to their selection to the United East All-Conference team were Magers was a second team pick at first base and Keller was named to the third team at shortstop. Both gave the Blue and White firepower at the plate as Keller was second in the league with a .475 batting average while Magers was ninth with a clip of .415.
Keller was also first in the conference in runs (42), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.817), and total bases (98). Her 57 hits were the second-most in the league, while her 26 stolen bases were third. On top of that, her 12 triples not only lead Division III, but are tied with one other player in the NCAA regardless of division.
Magers was on the receiving end of most of the ground outs fielded by Keller and became one of the top fielders and sported one of the top fielding percentages in the conference at .992. She went 27-for-65 on the season with 20 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Five hits went for doubles.
NFCA All-Region and All-American athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coach, are voted for by the coaches in their region or division, and ultimately selected by elected All-American committee members to receive this prestigious accolade. These honorees are in the top 1% of student-athletes competing each season. All special awards are also selected by the All-American committee members or by the entire division.
