(LATHAM, N.Y.) – The United East has announced its Player of the Week awards and
Jalen Bowie (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Frederick / Shippensburg) has been selected for his defensive abilities by the conference office. Bowie led Wilson to a weekend triumph over visiting Marywood after he pulled down 17 rebounds, made two steals, and blocked one shot.
This is the fifth Player of the Week award this season for the Phoenix and first for Bowie.
Jalen Pierce received offensive honors after Week 1, while
Armani Jones has been named three times, including a sweep of offensive and defensive accolades two weeks ago.
In Saturday's game against the Pacers, Bowie excelled on both ends of the floor. Offensively he led the Blue and White by pouring in 23 points after he went 6-for-13 from the field and made 11 free throws while dishing out four assists. On the glass, a dozen of his 17 caroms were on the defensive end.
The result was a 76-70 Wilson victory over a strong Marywood squad that had lost just once prior this season.
Bowie and the Phoenix will become road warriors the rest of the month as they play four games away from home before the New Year. The fist of those will be Tuesday when they head to Owings Mills to battle Stevenson. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
