(LATHAM, N.Y.) – For the second consecutive week
Armani Jones (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Christ The King Prep / Bryant & Stratton) has been named the United East Player of the Week by the conference office. This week's designation is twice as nice as he received both offensive and defensive awards after he gave two standout performances by averaging 19 points and eight rebounds per game as Wilson fell to perennial Division II power Millersville before defeating Widener.
Against the Marauders, Jones led the Phoenix with 13 points after he shot .500 from the field on a 6-of-12 night. He was also strong on the glass where he led the Blue and White with six rebounds.
The Windy City native remained strong on both ends of the floor with 25 points and 12 rebounds against the Pride on Saturday. Offensively he went 10-for-15 from the field while 11 of his dozen caroms came on the defensive end as he garnered his second double-double of the season.
All told, he shot 59.3% from the field with 15 defensive boards.
This is Jones' second and third weekly accolade of the season. It's his fifth all time after he was also named defensive player of the week last week, February 10 of this calendar year, and December 23, 2024. This is the first time he's been named for his offensive play.
Dating back to last season, Jones has received four of the last 12 player of the week awards. Along with
Jalen Pierce's selection on November 10, Wilson has won five of the last 12.
Jones and the Phoenix return to action on Wednesday as they head to Middletown to take on Penn State Harrisburg in the United East opener. Tip-off with the Lions is set for 5 p.m.
