Jones Scores 13 As Wilson Falls At D-II Millersville

(MILLERSVILLE, Pa.) – The penultimate non-conference game before United East action starts up saw Wilson take on Division II Millersville on Tuesday evening. The Phoenix were led by Armani Jones (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Christ The King / Bryant & Stratton) who scored in double-figures while shooting 50% from the field, but it wasn't enough to counter the Marauders' balanced and inside presence.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 58, Millersville 96

Venue: Pucillo Gymnasium

Records: Wilson 1-5, 0-0 United East; Millersville 3-2, 0-0 PSAC

How It Happened
  • Millersville set the tone early as the hosts looked to control the paint feeding Division I transfer Cesar Tchilombo. The 6-9 forward scored or assisted 15 points in the first five minutes as the Marauders jumped out to an 18-4 lead. Wilson caught a little bit of momentum as Jaylin Davis (Sr., Hampton, Va. / Kecoughtan / Lynchburg) sank a 3-pointer and Tobias Reese (So., Mansfield, Texas / St. Elizabeth (Del.)) followed with a pair of free throws after Jones pulled down the rebound on Millersville attempt to answer. However, Millersville soon increased its lead with Tchilombo scoring the next four.
  • The Phoenix experienced more success in the second half. Jones had four early points including a bucket off of a tip-in. A couple of minutes later he added an inside jumper and converted the and-one free throw after being fouled on the play. He assisted on a couple of makes as he set up Jalen Pierce (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate / Millersville) on a fast break layup and Quinton Renigar (Jr., Charlottesville, Va. / Regents / Valley Forge) on a 3-pointer.
Inside The Numbers
  • Jones finished the night with 13 points while making 6-of-12 from the field. He added six rebounds to his line as well.
  • Winston Raford (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Forest Park) tallied seven points on the night with a pair of 3-pointers in the first half.
  • Travis Blake Jr. (FY, Baltimore, Md. / North County) helped out the Blue and White on the boards with five rebounds.
  • Millersville's Tchilombo led a quintet of Marauders in double-figures with 19 points and recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds. He went 8-for-11 from the field.
