(LATHAM, N.Y.) – A pair of Wilson student-athletes have received postseason honors as the United East has announced its 2024 men's volleyball all-conference awards on Wednesday.
Saria Alshaikhali (Sr., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia / Hayfield) and
Camden Sterner (FY, Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) both represented the Phoenix as both were named to the league's second team.
It's the third all-conference honor for Alshaikhali after he was named an All-CSAC Second Team selection in 2022 and an honorable mention in 2023.
Alshaikhali was one of the catalysts for the Blue and White's attack as he was second on the team with 173 kills. He was third in the conference with 7.00 attacks per set. He reached double-figures in kills seven times with a season-best 15 in a home victory against Pratt. Defensively Alshaikhali was strong as well as he picked up 2.16 digs per set to finish 11th in the league. He hit double-figures in digs eight times with a season-best 18 against Valley Forge. Alshaikhali had five double-doubles on the season.
Sterner served as the team's libero in his rookie season and showed why with 243 digs on the year. His 2.76 average per set ranks third in the conference and No. 29 nationally. Sterner reached double figures in 13 matches this season with a season-best 22 against Neumann. Three of those matches were in conference play. Sterner was also a United East Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
