Hunt Seat Starts Season on Strong Note

(TYRONE, Pa.) – The Wilson hunt seat team got its season underway as it participated in its first two shows, which were hosted by Penn State, over the weekend. The Phoenix picked up where they left off last season as they finished third on Saturday and were the high point reserve team on Sunday.

Day 2 was highlighted by seven blue ribbon rides by the Phoenix roster. In two events, two Wilson riders tied each other for the top honors. Tess Hairston and Kylie Wright (Sr., York Springs, Pa.) did so in intermediate hunter seat equitation over fences, while Emily Johnson (Jr., Wellsville, Pa.) and Ally Clayton (Jr., Morgantown, Pa.) did so in limit hunter seat equitation over fences.

Hairston and Wright also added first place finishes in other events. Hairston finished first in intermediate hunter seat equitation on the flat just ahead of Johnson who finished second. Wright lead a quintet of Phoenix riders with first in limit hunter seat equitation on the flat with Emily Breighner (So., Nottinham, Md.) in second.

The remaining first place result went to Danielle Garman as she led a strong foursome of Phoenix in the novice hunter seat equitation on the flat. Other second day standouts saw Erin Woodworth (So., Perkasie, Pa.) place second in open hunter seat equitation over fences, Samantha Gilley (So., Sykesville, Md.) take runner-up in open equitation on the flat, and Darin Toby (FY, Harrisburg, Pa.) finish second in pre-novice hunter seat equitation on the flat.

The first show was headlined by Woodworth who took home the only first place finish for the Blue and White in open equitation over fences. Second place finishes went to Judi Wolf (Sr., Sykesville, Md.) in intermediate equitation over fences, Hairston in intermediate equitation on the flat, Jenna Howell in limit equitation over fences, Breighner in limit equitation on the flat, and Mahala Holland in novice equitation on the flat.

Wolf's results also allowed her to point up over fences into open.

Wilson will ride again as it hosts a show on Saturday, October 26, in Hawthorne Arena.
