How It Happened (Game 1)
- Despite the final score, the opener appeared to be a defensive battle through the first three innings. Michael Marrale (5th, Sykesville, Md. / Old Dominion) gave the Phoenix an early lead after he scored on a wild pitch following a two-out triple. Marrale scored again in the top of the third on an Alex Seidleck (So., Crownsville, Md. / Indian Creek) base hit.
- Rosemont got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, but Wilson got it back and then some with a seven spot in the fourth. Seven hits fueled the barrage with Garrett Griebel (Fy., Kent Island, Md. / Kent Island), Jordan McKenzie (Jr., White Plains, Md. / Southern Maryland), Dean Mercer (Sr., Dunedin, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic), Marrale, and Brady Andre (Jr., Brookeville, Md. / Sherwood) all providing RBI's on base hits.
- As if that weren't enough, the Phoenix put up 10 more on nine hits in the fifth. Mercer provided the highlight of the frame as he went deep for the first time this season for a two-run homer. Gerald Buchanan (Gr., Olney, Md. / Montgomery CC) added a pair of base hits for RBI's in the frame with the second going for a triple.
- Wilson wasn't done as five more runs followed in the sixth. Peyton Taylor (Jr., Worton, Md. / Kent County / Cabrini) went yard for the first time this season for a two-run shot over the left field fence. Andre and Bryan DeCarlo (Jr., Gaithersburg, Md. / Hagerstown CC) added three more runs on a pair of doubles to help make it 24-1.
- Chris Bauman (So., Snow Hill, Md. / Snow Hill) remained unbeaten on the hill as he improved to 4-0 on the season. He allowed just one run on five hits against 17 batters.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The Phoenix kept the offense churching as they scored in the first five innings. Griebel led off the game with a triple and scored one play later as Mercer hit a sac fly to right. An Andre sac fly scored Seidleck in the second to make it 2-0. Three more runs followed in the third on base hits by Mercer, Seidleck, and Doc Daniels (So., Deal Island, Md. / Crisfield).
- Mercer still wasn't finished as he sparked a five-run fourth with a single up the middle to score DeCarlo. Seidleck then singled up the middle to score Marrale and Mercer to make it 9-0. Andre capped the scoring in the inning with a base hit to score Buchanan for the 10-0 lead.
- The Ravens didn't give up and mounted a strong comeback starting in the bottom of the fourth. Three hits, three walks, an error, and a sac fly added up to six runs to get them back into the game. They threatened more, but left a runner stranded on third.
- Ryan Torres (So., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) scored an insurance run in the top of the fifth, and although it wasn't crucial, it added a little more breathing room for the Blue and White as the Ravens attempted one final comeback attempt in the seventh. Consecutive two-out doubles by Rosemont scored three runs to bring the tying run to the plate, but a ground out to third ended the threat.
- Jack Vener (Jr., Easton Md. / St. Michael's / McDaniel) came on in relief and recorded the win for his first decision of the season. Emilio Rodriguez (Fy., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) started the game and struck out five in three innings of work, while Orlando Estevez (Gr., Key West, Fla. / Key West) pitched the final two frames and punched out four.
Inside The Numbers
- Andre and Mercer both recorded six RBI each between both games. Andre went a combined 5-for-7 and scored three runs, while Mercer went 4-for-6 with four runs scored.
- Marrale had quite the offensive numbers as well as he went 6-for-7 overall on the day. In Game 1 alone he was 5-for-5 with a double, a triple, six runs scored, and two RBI. He scored two more runs in the second.
- Eleven different hitters recorded hits in the opening game. Seven of them recorded multiple hits.
- The offense remained balanced in the second game too as 10 players recorded the 15 hits.
- The 26 hits in Game 1 are the most by the Phoenix in a single game this season.
