How It Happened
- Teams exchanged sets of three shots to open up the game with Wilson having the early advantage as Bianca Sommers (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg), Shaffer, and Smith all having attempts on target with saves made by the Highlanders' Isabelle Portis. Cairn answered with three shots by Teresa Lee, only one of which was on goal with Rebecca Marakovitz (Jr., New Market, Md. / Linganore) making the stop for the Phoenix.
- Six minutes after Lee's last of the aforementioned shots, Smith had another attempt. This time it was true and gave the Blue and White a 1-0 lead.
- Wilson was able to build upon the momentum shift and Shaffer was able to capitalize five minutes later. She was set up by Maddy Miller (So., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) on the assist as Shaffer raced by the goalkeeper and made it 2-0 with 5:19 to go until halftime.
- In the second half Marakovitz was instrumental in keeping the game a clean sheet on a not-so-clean field. Battling muddy conditions she made three saves in the first 21 minutes of the second half. From there the defense did its job and prevented the Highlanders from getting another shot on goal the rest of the way.
