LATROBE, Pa.- The Wilson College women's soccer team hit the road this afternoon for their regular season opener against St. Vincent College. The Phoenix fell short against the Bearcats with a final score of 3-0.
How It Happened: The Bearcats got off to an early lead scoring in the opening minutes through traffic to take a 1-0 lead over the Phoenix. The Wilson defense would continue to play hard throughout the half keeping the game within one as the half time whistle blew. Senior
Morgan Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa., Phoenixville) would have the teams only shot of the half in the 35th minute of play that was saved by the Bearcats keeper. The Phoenix offense started the second half with a shot from senior
Bailey Miller (Sterling, Va., Washington) that was blocked. In the 61st minute of action St. Vincent netted their second goal with a long shot putting the Phoenix down 2-0. A few minutes later the Bearcats would score their third goal off of a free kick in front of the box.Wilson would have five more scoring opportunities in the half but would not capitalize on them as the final whistle blew with a final score of 3-0.

Halley Shaffer (Sunbury, Pa., Line Mountain) led the team in shots with two followed by
Wineburg, Miller, and Simone Karustis (Chester Springs, Pa., Owen J. Roberts) each following with one apiece. The Wilson keepers,
Erin Roszkowiak (Cinnaminson, N.J., Cinnaminson), Rebecca Marakovitz (New Market, Md., Linganore), and Chloe Stout (Minersville, Pa., Minersville) combined for three saves on the day.
