Wilson Earns CSAC President's Cups

Phoenix sweep men's, women's and overall awards.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has announced the President's Cup winners for the 2021-22 year. For the first time in history, Wilson College earned not just one President's Cup, but all three as the Phoenix won the Men's Cup, Women's Cup, and the Overall Cup. The CSAC President's Cup is awarded annually to the men's, women's and overall athletics program with the highest competitive rating, based on both regular season and conference playoff performance. Nine of the ten CSAC sports Wilson sponsors earned a spot in the post-season this year.

"Wilson College is honored to receive all three CSAC President's Cups," said President Wes Fugate. "These awards are the result of countless hours of hard work from our talented and dedicated student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff. Our teams competed with extraordinary passion and pride, and I commend them for their accomplishment. The entire Wilson community is proud of the academic and athletic excellence displayed by our teams."

For the Overall Cup, the Phoenix claimed 77.7 percent of the points possible on the strength of conference championships in field hockey, men's basketball, and softball. The Phoenix also claimed runner-up status in baseball. Cedar Crest College was second in the overall standings with 71.7 percent of the points.

The Women's Cup is where the Phoenix held a substantial edge as the teams earned 81.5 percent of the points, nearly 10 percent more than Cairn University. The Phoenix claimed championships in field hockey and softball, while women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's basketball, and women's lacrosse all finished in the top 4 and earned post-season bids.

The Men's Cup saw the Phoenix claim the crown with 71.9 percent of the points, edging out Cairn University who tallied 70.8 percent of the points. Men's basketball led the way as the team claimed its first-ever CSAC championship. Baseball earned a runner-up finish, while men's volleyball finished third.

"For Wilson to earn not only our first-ever President's Cup, but to claim all three is truly amazing," said Director of Athletics Tina Hill. "This recognition is a testament to the tremendous work of our student-athletes and coaches and I am so very proud of each of them. It takes many people working hard, from support staff to facilities personnel, to make this happen and this recognition is a culmination of that collaborative, team effort. "

Institutional scores for the President's Cup are calculated using a graduated point system, with each participating institution earning a pro-rated share, based on conference finish. The competitive percentage rating is determined by dividing the total number of points earned by an institution by its total possible points.
