Gators Roll Phoenix

BALTIMORE, Md - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team was back on the road this evening for a CSAC match-up with defending conference champions Notre Dame of Maryland. The Phoenix (2-7, 1-1 CSAC) fell to the Gators (3-4, 1-1 CSAC) by a final score of 20-13.

How It Happened: The Phoenix jumped out to the lead early in the first quarter as fifth-year senior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) found the back of the net less than three minutes into the contest. Just over a minute later, the Phoenix struck again as freshman Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS) drilled her sixth goal of the season for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS) tallied the next goal with an assist from junior Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) as the Phoenix pushed the advantage to 3-0. After a pair of goals by the Gators, Reynolds scored with an assist from sophomore Marissa Eisenhauer (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) to keep a 4-2 lead. However, the Gators closed out the opening quarter with four straight goals to take a 6-4 lead and they would not give it up. A big run by the Gators to open the second quarter gave the hosts some breathing room as they pushed the lead to 12-5. A pair of quick goals by freshman Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) and McHugh gave the Phoenix some life, but another goal by the Gators gave them a 13-7 edge. The Phoenix would respond again as a pair of goals in the final minute of the half by freshman Erin Roszkowiak (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson HS) pulled the Phoenix within striking distance at 13-9. Lague opened the third quarter with two goals, the first assisted by junior Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA, Henderson HS) while the second was a free position shot to make it 13-11. A run of three out of four goals by the Gators to close out the quarter left the hosts with a 17-13 advantage heading to the fourth. Although the Phoenix put five shots on goal in the final quarter, the Gators defense didn't give-up a score as they cruised to the 20-13 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Gators out shot the Phoenix 33-24 and held a 15-7 edge in ground balls. McHugh and Lague paced the offense with 3 goals each, while Reynolds, Singer and Roszkowiak added 2 a piece. Sophomore Delaney Fulfer (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle HS) recorded 7 saves in goal.
