Phoenix Outlast Defenders

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.- The Wilson College softball team traveled to Clark Summit University for their final games of the regular season. The Phoenix closed out the season with two wins over Clarks Summit with final scores of 13-1 and 4-0. 

Game One: The Phoenix earned the first runs of the game off two singles and a triple giving the Phoenix a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Haiden Brookens (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg Magnet) secured the fourth run of the game in the top of the third inning off a wild pitch. The Phoenix earned two more runs in the next inning Amelia Edens (Pasadena, MD, Glen Burnie) and Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) passing home plate bringing the score to 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning. The defenders earned their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Wilson scored six runs to bring the game to its final score of 13-1. 

Inside the Box Score: Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) led Wilson with three runs scored while eight other Phoenix crossed home plate. Naomi Butterfield (Nampa, ID, Timberline High School) led the team in hits after going 4-4 and earning one run on the day. The Phoenix ended the game with 13 runs, 15 hits, and one error while the Defenders finished with one run, five hits, and 10 errors. 

Game Two: The second game of the afternoon saw fewer runs with the final score of 4-0. Brookens hit a sacrifice fly out to the center field that brought home Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg)  to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. In the top of the second inning, the Phoenix earned two runs with Butterfield and Ashley Stevens (Valencia, CA, Valencia) reaching home. Wilson secured the final run of the game in the top of the third inning, off a triple from Bradley allowing Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) to reach home and bring the score to 4-0. Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the game ending the game with a final score of 4-0. 

Inside the Box Score: Wenger went 4-4 and secured a run for the Phoenix. In the second game, the Phoenix ended with four runs, 14 hits, and two errors while Clarks Summit finished with zero runs. seven hits, and three errors. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will wait to see which seed and when they will play for the Colonial States Athletics Conference Playoffs.
