CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team played host to the visiting Shock of Washington Adventist University to close out non-conference play, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (18-11-1, 10-2 CSAC) dropped both games to the Shock (15-15) by scores of 2-3 and 2-8. Before today's game, the softball team honored their three seniors,
Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester),
Claudia Umbrell (Willow Hill, PA., Fannett Metal), and
Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, PA., Donegal).
Game One: Graduate student
Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) got the start on the mound, working out of the first inning with no damage done. The first hit for Wilson came in the bottom of the fourth, that's when junior
Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) knocked a single to left field. Later on, in the bottom of the fifth,
Umbrell and
Kosheba both recorded singles as
Kosheba came around to score on a hit from graduate student
Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon), putting the Phoenix on top 1-0. Barker drilled a homer to center field in the bottom of the sixth
Barker drilled a homer to center field that extended the Wilson lead to 2-0. Washington Adventist managed to add three runs in the top of the seventh as the Shock took game one by a score of 3-2.
Inside the Box Score: Barker went 2-3 with a homer,
Roth added one hit and an RBI, and graduate student
Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) went 2-3.
Potter and junior
Marina Monsalve (Corona, CA., Centennial) both spent time in the pitcher's circle, combing for six strikeouts.
Game Two: In the second game of the day, graduate student
Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) found the first run in the bottom of the second inning after hitting a single to right field and then advancing to second on an error. From there,
Carty was moved around the bases and brought home off a single from
Kosheba. Washington Adventist found the tying run in the top of the third inning to level the game at one apiece. Wilson was quick to respond retaking the lead after a sacrifice fly from
Bradley that brought in
Roth putting the Phoenix back in front 2-1. The Shock regained their lead in the top of the fourth inning after scoring two runs giving them a 3-2 lead. The game stayed locked at 3-2 until the top of the sixth inning when Washington Adventist scored four runs to extend the lead to 7-2. In the top of the seventh, the Shock called the game after hitting a sacrifice fly to right field allowing the runner on third to reach home and extend the lead to 8-2 the game's final score.
Inside the Box Score: Carty and
Roth both finished game two with one run, and one hit on two at-bats.
Barker,
Kosheba, and
Monsalve each had a hit for the Phoenix in game two. Wilson finished game two with two runs, five hits, and four errors while Washington Adventist ended with eight runs, 13 hits, and three errors.
