CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team played host to the visiting Vixens of Sweet Briar College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (4-8, 3-2 CSAC) defeated the Vixens (5-5, 2-2 CSAC) in a nail-biter, by a final score of 10-8.
How It Happened: Starting off the first quarter, Wilson jumped out to a 2-0 lead off two goals from fifth-year senior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona). With about four minutes left in the opening quarter, Sweet Briar cut the deficit with a goal that brought the score to 2-1. In the second quarter, the Vixens started with a goal and then managed to take a 5-2 lead with just under three minutes left in the quarter. But, with just nine seconds to go, freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) tallied a goal that brought the score to 5-3 at halftime.
About two minutes into the third period,
Lague notched another goal that cut the deficit to just one, 5-4. After both teams duked it out for the next 11 minutes, Sweet Briar scored another that pushed them in front. 6-4. About one minute later, junior
Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) rifled off a goal that brought the deficit back to one. Then, with less than a minute on the scoreboard,
Lague evened the game up at six with a goal off a free position attempt. Opening up the final quarter, the Phoenix fired off three unanswered goals that pushed them in front by a score of 9-6. Freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS) picked up the first and third goal, while
Lague tallied the second. The Vixens answered right back with two goals in less than a minute which brought them within one goal, 9-8.
Reynolds added one more goal off a free position shot, as the Phoenix took a 10-8 victory.
Inside the Box Score: Lague tallied her fifth-straight hat trick with four goals, bringing her hat trick total to eight this season, while
Young,
Singer, and
Reynolds each scored two goals.

Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS) paced the team with two assists apiece, while senior
Juliann Winkler (Dingmans Ferry, PA., Delaware Valley) and freshman
Erin Roszkowiak (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson HS) led the team with five ground balls each. Sophomores
Delaney Fulfer (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle HS) and
Krystal Kienast (Purcellville, VA, Loudon Valley HS) both spent time in goal, combining for 12 saves.
