BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team traveled to take on the Lions of Bryn Athyn College in another Colonial States Athletic Conference match. The Phoenix (3-8, 2-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Lions (4-2, 2-0 CSAC) by a final score of 20-9.
How It Happened: After Bryn Athyn managed to strike first, Wilson rallied back and evened the match up at one, off a goal from freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti). About a minute later, the Lions managed to add another goal, but freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS) answered right back and evened things up, this time at 2-2. Moments later, after senior
Juliann Winkler (Dingmans Ferry, PA., Delaware Valley) caused a turnover, fifth-year senior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) beat the keeper and put the Phoenix on top by one goal. With just two minutes left in the first quarter,
Lague managed to extend the Wilson lead to 4-2 with her second goal of the game. Starting off the second quarter,
Lague added a hat trick with her third goal of the match, putting the Phoenix in front 5-2. Bryn Athyn spent most of the quarter playing catch-up and eventually took the lead at 6-5. But, just before the half,
Lague managed to even the game up at six apiece with another goal. In the third quarter, the Lions scored four unanswered to put them in front 10-6.
Singer and freshman
Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS) both tallied goals in the third as Wilson went into the final quarter trailing 11-8.
Singer added one more goal in the final quarter as the Phoenix dropped this game by a score of 20-9.
Inside the Box Score: Lague tallied her fourth hat trick in a row, finishing the match with four goals.
Lague also added three ground balls and two draw control wins.
Singer grabbed her second hat trick in a row, adding three goals on six total shots.
Sanders and
Young each added one goal;
Sanders went on to come up with three ground balls, while
Young won four draw controls. Sophomore
Delaney Fulfer (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle HS) got the start in the cage, coming up with six saves.
