CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team hosted the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University in a nonconference match earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (1-1, 0-0 CSAC) took down the Royals (0-8, 0-7 ODAC) by a final score of 15-6.
How It Happened: Wilson wasted no time getting started in this game, as sophomore
Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS) tallied the first goal of the match less than two minutes in. About four minutes later, the Phoenix notched another goal off a shot from freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti), assisted by freshman
Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS). Moments later,
Lague scored another goal that propelled Wilson out in front, 3-0. Sophomore
Marissa Eisenhauer (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) and
Lague added goals for the Phoenix before Eastern Mennonite managed to sneak one by, bringing the score to 5-1 after the first quarter. Starting off the second period,
McHugh caused a turnover that led to a goal from freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS), assisted by junior
Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School), that pushed the lead to 6-1. About four minutes later, the Royals added another goal, bringing the score to 6-2 in favor of Wilson. After both opponents traded goals, junior
Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA, Henderson HS) nabbed her first goal of the season on a free position shot, pushing the score to 8-3.
Reynolds added one more to the scoreboard as the Phoenix went into the half leading, 9-3.
In the third quarter, the Wilson offense got things moving quickly as
Young and
Lague drilled two unanswered goals, bringing the score to 11-3. Not to be denied, Eastern Mennonite responded with two unanswered goals before
Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS) snapped the streak with another goal, this time assisted by freshman
Jordan Hastie (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS). The Royals added one more before the end of the quarter as the Phoenix went into the final period leading by a score of 12-6. In the fourth quarter, the Wilson defense shutdown Eastern Mennonite while notching three goals, one scored by
Eisenhauer and two scored by
McHugh, as Wilson took their first victory of the season, 15-6.
Inside The Box Score: Lague and
McHugh tallied hat tricks, with four goals apiece.
