CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team played host to the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College earlier this afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Phoenix (1-4, 0-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Bearcats (4-1, 0-0 PAC) by a final score of 21-7.
How It Happened: Wilson got to work right away, as freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) scored the first goal just seven seconds into the game. The Phoenix had two more shot opportunities before Saint Vincent evened things up at one apiece. Over the next five minutes, the Wilson defense caused several turnovers, but the Bearcats managed to add another goal, pushing the score to 2-1 with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter. Saint Vincent added three more goals in the quarter as the Phoenix went into the second, trailing 5-1. In the second quarter, after the Bearcats added a goal, Wilson scored two unanswered goals to cut the deficit. The first goal came off a shot from freshman
Jordan Hastie (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS), while
Lague tallied her second goal of the match, off a free position shot, bringing the score to 6-3. Later on in the second quarter, after three goals from Saint Vincent, freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS) rifled off a goal from off a free position shot as Wilson went into the half trailing, 10-4.
Starting off the second half,
Erin Roszkowiak (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson HS) got the scoring started for the Phoenix, cutting the deficit to 12-5. Later in the quarter, Wilson fired off a flurry of shots but could not beat the keeper as the score kept at 12-5. Later on in the quarter,
Young tallied another goal off a free position shot as the Phoenix went into the final quarter trailing, 17-6.
Lague got the scoring started for Wilson for the fourth quarter, notching her third goal with just under ten minutes left. The Phoenix dropped this one by a final score of 21-7.
Inside the Box Score: Lague tallied a hat trick with three goals on five shots while scooping up three ground balls.
Young notched two goals, with six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Roszkowiak and
Hastie each tallied one goal. Wilson picked up 27 ground balls while causing 8 turnovers and notching 11 shots on goal.
