CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team played host to the visiting Mounties of Mount Aloysius College in a non-conference matchup, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (1-5, 0-0 CSAC) got things going in the second half, but were defeated by the Mounties (1-4, 0-0 UEC) by a final score of 19-11.
How It Happened: Mount Aloysius opened the game up with four unanswered goals before Wilson ended the run with a goal from freshman
Emily Young (Fairfax, VA, Chantilly HS). After two more goals from the Mounties, freshman
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) tallied the next goal for the Phoenix, as Wilson went into the second quarter trailing, 6-2. Less than a minute into the second, sophomore
Kayla McHugh (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin HS) notched the first goal of the quarter off a free position attempt, cutting the deficit to 6-3. The Mounties added four more goals before the Phoenix ended the streak with a goal from junior
Rachael Rementer (West Chester, PA, Henderson HS), assisted by freshman
Hope Sanders (Hanover, PA, New Oxford HS). About three minutes later,
Sanders fired a shot that beat the keeper; as Wilson went into halftime trailing, 12-5.
In the second half, the Phoenix stepped their game up and started to control the pace of play. The offense saw several shot opportunities while the defense continued to cause turnovers and settled the Mountie offense. After the defense forced a turnover,
McHugh notched her second goal. Mount Aloysius responded with two more goals before the end of the quarter, bringing the score to 14-6 going into the final period of play. About two minutes into the fourth quarter,
Young rifled off her second goal of the game, assisted by junior
Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High). Moments later, after the defense came up with another turnover,
Lague chipped in another goal, again assisted by
Reynolds. After winning the ensuing draw control, the offense took the ball directly to the keeper as
Reynolds came up with her first goal of the night, assisted by
McHugh. The scoring didn't stop there, after the defense forced yet another turnover, the offense took control and drove back to the keeper where
Lague recorded her third goal, cutting the deficit to 15-10 with just under ten minutes left in the game. During the scoring spurt for the Phoenix, the offense tallied four unanswered goals. The Mounties then started back up again, responding with three goals to push their lead to 19-10. With less than a minute left,
Reynolds notched the last goal of the game as Wilson dropped this one by a final score of 19-11.
Inside the Box Score: Lague tallied a hat trick, her third of the season;
Young,
Reynolds, and
McHugh each recorded two goals, and
Sanders and
Rementer both rattled off one goal.
Reynolds also recorded a team-high two assists. The Phoenix dominated the draw control, outmatching their opponent 19-15, while the Wilson offense came up with a total of 21 shots.
