CHAMBERSBURG, Pa- The Wilson College women's soccer team faced off against conference opponent Cairn university earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix improved their CSAC record to 6-0-1 with a 4-0 win over the Highlanders. Prior to this afternoon's contest, Wilson honored their eight seniors,
Chloe Antalek (Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Beacon), Mia Harris (Waynesboro, Pa., Waynesboro), Simone Karustis (Chester Springs, Pa., Owen J. Roberts), Bailey Miller (Sterling, Va., Washington), Julia Mohler (Point Of Rocks, Md., Brunswick), Morgan Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa., Phoenixville) Hailey Chaney (Hagerstown, Md., North Hagerstown), and Rachel Rodriguez (Hedgesville, W.Va., Hedgesville).
How It Happened: Wilson started the scoring early with a goal from
Halley Shaffer (Sunbury, Pa., Line Mountain) who finished a cross from
Mia Harris to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead after four minutes.
Halley Shaffer scored her second of the game in the 12th minute extending the lead to 2-0. The Phoenix offense continued to fire shots, and only allowed one shot from the Cairn offense in the first half. The third goal of the game came three minutes into the second half from
Bailey Miller with an assist from
Halley Shaffer. The next goal for the Phoenix came off the foot of
Jade Wolfe (Mercersburg, Pa, James Buchanan) who rebounded a ball off a shot from
Halley Shaffer in the 53rd minute. Despite the offensive efforts from Wilson, the game concluded with a final score of 4-0.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson led Cairn in shots 20-2.
Halley Shaffer led the Phoenix offense with five shots, three shots on goal, two goals, and one assist. Wilson goalkeeper,
Rebecca Marakovitz (New Market, Md., Linganore) earned another shutout for the day and totaled one save across 90 minutes.
