Phoenix Dominate Falcons

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -  The Phoenix field hockey team put on a dominating performance tonight as they defeated the visiting Falcons of Cedar Crest College by a score of 3-0.

The Phoenix wasted no time in putting the pressure on the Falcons defense as they fired the first shot on goal in just the 3rd minute. Although denied in the first attempt, the Phoenix would get on the board less than two minutes later when freshman Brooke Clark  (Newport, Pa. , Newport ) scored on a cross from sophomore Miranda Long  (Catawissa, Pa. , Southern Columbia ) to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. The Phoenix would stay on the offensive and fire multiple shots over the next three minutes, but Falcons goalie Andi Dargis was able to keep the Phoenix from scoring until the 11th minute when sophomore Kari Lehman  (Marysville, Pa. , Susquenita ) rattled the cage with an assist from Clark, pushing the lead to 2-0. Lehman and Clark would hook up again in the 15th minute as Lehman found the back of the net for her 2nd goal of the contest giving the Phoenix a 3-0 at the half.

During the 2nd half the Phoenix continued to dominate the offensive end firing off another 11 shots, but were not able to put any more goals on the board. The Phoenix defense played solid the entire match, limiting the Falcons to just four shots. 

Overall the Phoenix held a 26-4 shot advantage and 9-2 edge in penalty corners.

With the win, Wilson College improves to 3-4 overall while Cedar Crest College falls to 1-6.

The field hockey team will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a home match versus Bethany College.
