Phoenix Field Hockey Rallies Late Over Earlham

Richmond, Ind. – The Phoenix came from behind to take a 3-2 win over Earlham College on Saturday afternoon.  The team scored three goals in the second period after trailing 2-0 late. 
 
Earlham took a 1-0 lead over Wilson in the 20th minute of regulation when Grace Makhoul scored a goal after a clean pass by Megan Hut.  The Quakers followed with another goal in the 21st minute of play when Megan Hut scored unassisted. 
 
Earlham outshot Wilson in the first half, 6-1, and claimed the edge in penalty corners with six.  The Phoenix tallied three saves.
 
Wilson entered the second period with determination, scoring three consecutive goals.  Junior Taylor Crouse put the Phoenix on the scoreboard after notching a goal in the 44th minute of the game.  Senior Hillary Swartz displayed her experience and scored two clutch goals unassisted in the 55th and 62nd minutes of regulation.   
 
Wilson led in shots in the second half over the Quakers, 8-4.  The team also held the advantage in penalty corners with seven. 
 
Junior Alexis Ankro delivered two shots in the contest.  Freshman Kayla Butts recorded four saves in net. 
 
Wilson returns to action on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to Cedar Crest College for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
