Field Hockey Falls At Hood

(FREDERICK, Md.) – The Wilson field hockey team lost a defensive minded showdown with Hood College on Tuesday evening. The Phoenix and Blazers were scoreless through the first half, but a goal midway through the third by the home team proved to be the difference.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Hood 1

Venue: Thomas Athletic Field

Records: Wilson 2-5, Hood 5-4

How It Happened
  • Despite it being a defensive contest, both squads had close chances in the early moments. The Blazers had the first opportunity as Natalie Badour took a shot that went off the post four minutes into the game. On Wilson's return trip, an awarded penalty corner resulted in Kate Seymour (Sr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) taking a shot that needed saved. Only one shot followed the rest of the quarter and that went to Hood's Lillie Kodrin, but Erin Sullivan (Jr., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) made the save to keep the game scoreless. Early in the second Hood put together two more shots with one Sullivan save. They were the last of the half as teams went to the break tied 0-0.
  • In the second half, Olivia Fantazzi (FY, Strasburg, Pa. / Lancaster County Day) had a blocked shot off an early penalty corner in hopes of putting the Phoenix ahead. Hood was able to get its offense generating from there and scored midway through the third as Bianca Scally scored. It energized the Blazers who spent most of the remainder of the game on the offense end and didn't yield a Wilson shot the rest of the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Hood led the shot count 15-2, but shots on goal were much closer with a 5-1 difference.
  • Penalty corners favored the Blazers 8-4.
  • Sullivan played well between the posts as she totaled a save in each quarter.
  • The defeat snapped a 10-game winning streak against the Blazers for Wilson.
