(READING, Pa.) – In the penultimate non-conference game before league play starts, Wilson traveled to take on Alvernia on Thursday evening. The Golden Wolves were operating like a well-oiled machine and scored in every quarter to defeat the Phoenix.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Alvernia 8
Venue: Alvernia Turf Field
Records: Wilson 2-4, Alvernia 3-4
How It Happened
- Alvernia put the pressure on the Wilson defense from the start. The Wolves fired off six shots in the first seven minutes, but the Blue and White did well to prevent any of them getting through with three blocks and a save by Erin Sullivan (Jr., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley). Persistence eventually paid off as Ava Michael scored almost exactly midway through the quarter. Sullivan made three more saves and Madison Hamrick (Jr., Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) added a defensive save before Alvernia made it 2-0 with a goal in the final seconds of the first.
- The Golden Wolves' attack made it difficult for the Phoenix to generate any momentum on the opposite end as they took 10 more shots in the second quarter resulting in three more goals and a 5-0 lead at the break. Four each followed in the third and fourth resulting in three more goals. Kate Seymour (Sr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) was able to breakaway early in the fourth following an Alvernia corner to give Wilson its only shot which resulted in a save by Madi Derfler.
