Curtis, DeVincent Score, But Phoenix Fall At Altoona

(ALTOONA, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team found the back of the net twice, but a second half surge saw Penn State Altoona score thrice to claim victory Tuesday night. The Phoenix scored both goals in the opening 18 minutes to build a 2-1 lead, however the Lions were able to answer early in the second and score a pair late en route to the win.

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix struck first as Jordan DeVincent (Sr., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) found Bryson Curtis (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) just 3:40 into contest on a perfect centering pass from the right sideline. Curtis was able to shield his defender away from the ball and flick it in with the right foot on the near post for the score.
  • Altoona was able to tie the game shortly after, but DeVincent was able to put Wilson back up in the 18th minute. After a long throw in from midfield by Andrew Bailey (Sr., Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore), DeVincent was able to claim possession on the second ball at the top center of the box. Dribbling to the right, he was able to cross up the Lions' keeper to the far post for the goal.
  • The score remained 2-1 through the break before the Lions pulled even in the 54th minute as Ethan Krystek pushed up a pass for Leandro Sarao to beat the goalie at the top of the box. Altoona then went ahead as Luke Guerrini found Jayson Ireland in the 77th minute. Ireland then connected with Krystek for an insurance goal in the 81st.
Inside The Numbers
  • Altoona led the shot count by a 20-12 margin, but shots on goal were more balanced by a 9-7 count in favor of the hosts.
  • Wilson led the corner kick category 6-5.
  • Curtis's and DeVincent's goals were their first of the season.

The Phoenix now prep for conference play and will welcome Keystone to campus this Saturday. It will be a doubleheader with the women's game starting at 1 p.m. and the men following at 3:30.
