(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – A third quarter goal was the difference in Wilson's victory over Eastern Mennonite in field hockey action on a rainy Tuesday fall afternoon. The Phoenix largely controlled most of the game on the offensive end, knocking on the proverbial door on multiple occasions until finally breaking through midway through the frame.

How It Happened

• While it was a defensive scoring game with one goal, Wilson's best defense was its offense as it put the pressure on EMU's back line from the start. Shots from Isabel Blake (FY, Dover, Pa. / Northeastern), Kate Seymour (Sr., Churchton, Md. / Southern), Danica Frushour (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster), and Haley Hamrick (Jr., Taneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) were lined up on target, but resulted in saves from Royals netminder Teresa Green on three of them and a defensive stop by Shay Gough. The Phoenix also had four penalty corners in the first but couldn't convert.
• Seymour found two more chances early in the second, with Green making a pair of saves. She remained persistent and saw two more chances in the third before finally breaking through eight minutes into the period. Ginnah Kendall (So., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) set her up on a centering pass from the right and Seymour was able to fire it into the far end off the post.
• The Royals' best chance came at the end of the third as Jada Gibson took a shot that was saved by Erin Sullivan (Jr., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley). Wilson wasn't out of the woods just yet as EMU still had a penalty corner awarded to them, but Gibson had a second shot blocked to end the frame.
• The fourth belonged completely to the Phoenix. Wilson pressured the Royals defense once again with five penalty corners and seven shots. Although none of them resulted in a goal, it made it nearly impossible for Eastern Mennonite to counter and generate any offense in hopes of tying the game.

• Seymour's goal was her fifth of the season.
• Sullivan recorded the shutout after making three saves on the day. It's her first clean sheet since her rookie season.
• Wilson outshot the Royals 24-4. Shots on goal were 15-3.
• Penalty corners were also heavily in favor of the Phoenix by a 13-1 margin.
