(WILKES-BARRE, Pa.) – The Wilson women's volleyball played in a tri-match hosted by King's College on Saturday, and although the Phoenix improved throughout both matches, they were defeated in both contests. The afternoon's opening contest saw the Blue and White downed by Rutgers-Newark in straight sets. The tri's capstone contest saw Wilson take the third set and nearly force a fifth, but the Phoenix were tripped up in the fourth by two.

Addie Hebert (Sr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) recorded her 1,000th career dig during the day.

How It Happened (Match 1)
- Both teams were even at 11-all before Newark went on a 13-0 run to rush to a first set win. That fed into a dominant second set by the Scarlet Raiders who used an 8-0 run to take a commanding 12-4 lead. The Phoenix closed the gap to five before a 5-0 run gave Newark comfortable distance. Wilson kept fighting and tied the third up at 17-all following back-to-back-to-back aces from Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) and a Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) kill. Lichty added another to make it 21-20. However, Newark scored four of the last five to seal the match.
How It Happened (Match 2)
- After King's had little trouble en route to a 2-0 set lead, Wilson bounced back in the third. The Blue and White never trailed as they rushed out to a 4-0 lead. The Monarchs got back within one at 8-7 after a kill from Lindsay Arezina, but it was swiftly answered by an Ashlynn Babbitt (So., Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes). King's got back to within one at the 19-18 mark before Wilson scored five of the last 70. The fourth set a back-and-forth battle. The Phoenix looked to have momentum on their side with a 5-0 run making it 22-20 in their favor before the Monarchs answered with five of the next six to take the match.
Inside The Numbers
- Hebert finished with 24 digs on the day. She had nine in the opener against Newark and 15 more against King's to giver her 1,019 for her career.
- Lichty had a solid day as she led Wilson in kills in both categories. She had 18 total on the day with 11 against King's.
