(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The men's soccer game between Wilson and Eastern Mennonite capped a busy day on the new artificial turf at Kris's Meadow during Saturday's Wilson Weekend Schedule. The Phoenix battled with the Royals for the full 90, but ultimately fell as the visitors scored once in each half to take the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Eastern Mennonite 2
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 0-3-2, Eastern Mennonite 2-5
How It Happened
- Both teams had chances early, but the Royals found a break as they broke through in the 16th minute. Ahmed Rashed pushed a ball up the right center of the field and into the box, but a collision among the Phoenix defense created a loose ball opportunity and Kane Kiernan benefited from it and scored for a 1-0 lead. EMU kept the pressure on before Wilson found some momentum late in the half. Jace Williams (Sr., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) and Lenin Cinco (Sr., Chantilly, Va. / Westfield) both had chances with Williams' first shot needing a save. He had a second shot in the final minute that was just off the target.
- The Royals scored their second goal on an own goal situation late in the contest. With 10 minutes to play, a ball was sent into the box where a Phoenix defender attempted to head it away. Unfortunately, it went to the upper left 90 on the errant deflection for the final goal.
Inside The Numbers
- EMU outshot Wilson 30-6 overall and 12-2 in shots on goal. Corners also favored the visitors by a 13-4 difference.
- Gerson Navarro (Sr., Manassas Park, Va. / Manassas Park) started the game and made five saves between the pipes. Noah Lucas (FY, Land) played the second and made six saves.
