Goal-den Day: Everyone Eats As Phoenix Torch Tigers

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The Wilson Phoenix spread the wealth in a dominant victory over Trinity Washington as every field player found the back of the net in a true team showcase Wednesday afternoon. The win marked the fourth consecutive for the Blue and White matching their longest win streak since the 2023 season.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 20, Trinity 2

Venue: Trinity Lacrosse Field

Records: Wilson 5-9, 1-1 UE; Trinity 0-3, Independent

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix were hot out of the gate and scored in the opening minute despite being down a player as Pagie Ney (Sr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) found the back of the net on an assist from Alaina Marek (Jr., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty). The goal came just 54 seconds in and took about a minute more for Ney to find Alyvia Henneman (Jr., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) for a 2-0 lead. Anya Grzesek (So., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. / Holy Redeemer / Keystone), Ney, and Ryn Koffman (Jr., Meadville, Pa. / Meadville) added additional goals for a 5-0 lead at the end of the first.
  • Finley Vandevander (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) got in the scoring column with a pair of second quarter hat trick while Ella Pollock (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg), Zoe Rosen (So., Shepherdstown, W.Va. / Jefferson), and Marek also added goals. However, Trinity was able to avoid the shutout as Joy Chukwuocha was able to gain possession and use some fancy footwork to get the Tigers on the board. At the half, Wilson was up 11-1.
  • The Tigers opened the scoring to start the second half, but that would be it for Trinity the rest of the way. From there, the Phoenix received goals from Chantel Cannon (FY, Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic), Sadie Fike (Jr., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County), Trinity Brown (Jr., Laurel, Md. / Resevoir), Ney, Lydia Hampton (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg), Koffman, and Grzesek.
Inside The Numbers
  • Fike paced the offense with seven points on two goals and five assists.
  • Koffman celebrated her birthday in style with a hat trick and her first points of the season. Vandevander and Ney also had hat tricks to lead the Phoenix in goals scored.
  • On the defensive end Ney and Henneman both caused four turnovers. Rosen led the team with five ground balls while Ney and Fike both added four. Fike led the team with eight draw controls.
  • Kaelyn Goff (Jr., Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) was once again 50% or better on the day with a pair of saves.

Up Next
The Phoenix will host Cedar Crest for the penultimate game of the regular season and the United East finale. It will also be Senior Day for the Phoenix. A win would give the Phoenix the No. 2 seed in the United East Championship tournament and a home playoff game in the semifinals.
