How It Happened (Game 1)
- Abington opened the scoring with a solo run in the first thanks to a bunt single and a double down the right field line. Wilson was able to answer in the next inning when Jordan Stucki (Jr., Costa Mesa, Calif. / Costa Mesa / Greenville) scored on a double by Tyler O'Brien (So., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) down the third base line. The Phoenix proceeded to take the lead in the third when Justin Clapp (Jr., Redondo Beach, Calif. / Redondo Beach / Cal State Monterey Bay) drove in Cody Valentine (Jr., Fairfield, Pa. / St. Andrews) and Derek Chavera (FY, Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrias) brought in Samuel Martin (Jr., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) to make the score 3-1.
- The score remained dormant until the sixth inning when Abington exploded for eight runs on eight hits and an error. Wilson was able to get a run in the eighth to make it 9-4, but the Lions got it right back in the bottom half.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The Phoenix got off to a hot start in the nightcap with four runs in the first inning. Martin, Clapp, and Chavera opened up by loading the bases and came home in order thanks to base hits by Zachary Tyler (FY, Colonia, N.J. / JFK Memorial) and Jake McFarland (FY, Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett). Stucki then drove in Tyler on a fielder's choice.
- After a short rain delay, the Lions were able to get on the board with one run in the bottom of the third. A second run came unearned in the bottom of the fourth. Wilson was able to get them back in the seventh as Chavera doubled to left center which scored Martin and Valentine.
- Abington added one with a solo home run in the eighth and threatened in the ninth. The Lions were able to get the first two batters on before Chavera made the switch to the mound to spell starter Dallas Gilbert (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg / Penn State Harrisburg). Chavera was able to strike out two of the four batters faced to get out of the jam and record the save.
Inside The Numbers
- Gilbert recorded his first win of the season and moved to 1-2 on the year. He allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with six strikeouts against five walks in 8.0 innings of work.
- Chavera's save came in his first appearance on the mound this season.
- Martin, Clapp, Chavera, McFarland, O'Brien, and Seth Bivens (Sr., Hancock, Md. / Hagerstown C.C.) all had multiple hit games.
