Phoenix Fall In Midweek Matinee To LBC

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson baseball team fell to visiting Lancaster Bible in United East action in downtown Chambersburg on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix got off to a fast start, but couldn't hold off the charge by the Chargers who exploded for eight runs late to end the game in seven innings.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 3, Lancaster Bible 14 (7 Innings)

Venue: Henninger Field

Recrods: Wilson 3-14-1, 2-3 UE; Lancaster Bible 9-9, 4-1 UE

How It Happened
  • Samuel Martin (Jr., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) gave the Phoenix a hot start with a lead-off double down the third base line and scored two batters later when Derek Chavera (FY, Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrias) knocked him in with a base hit to center. Chavera eventually followed suit on a Justin Clapp (Jr., Redondo Beach, Calif. / Redondo Beach / Cal State Monterey Bay) sacrifice fly to center for a quick 2-0 lead.
  • The Chargers quickly responded with a run in the top of the second on a walk and a double. The visitors proceeded to tie the game with an RBI double in the third and soon took the lead with three unearned runs later in the frame. Another unearned run assisted the Chargers for a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth.
  • Joe Nawrocki (So., Parkton, Md. / Calvert Hall) gave the Blue and White a boost with a solo homer to left in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-3. The score remained there until the seventh when LBC took advantage of a couple of Wilson errors to add eight runs. Wilson was retired in order in the bottom half to end the game.
