Generals Down Phoenix On Baseball Diamond

(LEXINGTON, Va.) – The Wilson baseball team made the trip down I-81 to take on ODAC foe Washington & Lee on Monday evening. Although the Phoenix outhit the Generals 11-10, W&L had the upper hand in run production and scored multiple runs in every other inning to take the win.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 5, Washington & Lee 15 (7 Innings)

Venue: Cap'n Dick Smith Stadium

Records: Wilson 3-13-1, Washington & Lee 13-7-1

How It Happened
  • The Generals got off to a hot start with four hits leading to three runs in the first. Wilson was able to answer in the second as Charles Musser (Jr., Thurmont, Md. / Linganore) scored on a single through the left side by Sandro Granados (So., Hyattsville, Md. / Northwestern). W&L was able to add to its lead to make it 5-1, but Wilson didn't go away quietly. The Phoenix nearly tied the game as three runs crossed in the fifth. Derek Chavera (FY, Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrais) brought in Cody Valentine (Jr., Fairfield, Pa. / St. Andrews) on a base hit, Zachary Tyler (FY, Colonia, N.H. / JFK Memorial) made it 5-3 with a single through the right side. Tyler O'Brien (So., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) then made it 5-4 on a bases loaded walk to score Chavera.
  • Unfortunately, that was the closest Wilson would get. The Generals made a pitching change which ended the threat. W&L immediately answered with six runs in the fifth. Wilson added a run in the sixth, but the Generals were able to get it back and add on a few more to walk it off in the seventh.
