Lacrosse Falls To St. Mary's In Conference Opener

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson got a firsthand look at why defending champion St. Mary's was once again picked to win the league as the Phoenix fell to the Seahawks Saturday afternoon. The visitors jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and used a strong defense to limit the Blue and White's chances en route to the win.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 2, St. Mary's 17

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 1-9, 0-1 UE; St. Mary's 2-8, 1-0 UE

How It Happened
  • Wilson started off the game will with a draw control win by Sadie Fike (Jr., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) and the first shot of the game as Alyvia Henneman (Jr., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) put one on target that was saved. Unfortunately, it was the Seahawks that caught fire after that as they posted three goals in just over a minute just after that. St. Mary's went on to score three more and held a 10-0 lead at the break.
  • Henneman eventually found the back of the net in the third quarter as she took a pinpoint pass from Finley Vandevander (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) midway through the period. Wilson added a second goal in the fourth as Fike converted from eight meters out on a free position attempt.
Inside The Numbers
  • Defensively Wilson was paced by Fike, Zoe Rosen (So., Shepherdstown, W.Va. / Jefferson), and Riley Lemay (Jr., Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) with three ground balls each.
