Phoenix Nearly Steal A Game From Harrisburg

(MIDDLETOWN, Pa.) – Wilson nearly pulled off a stunner as it fell to Penn State Harrisburg by a run in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix rallied for three runs in the seventh inning, but came up just short of tying the game and fell by one. Game 2 wasn't as kind to the Phoenix as they were limited to one run on four hits while Harrisburg scored in six different innings.

The Basics

Scores: Game 1 – Wilson 3, Penn State Harrisburg 4
Game 2 – Wilson 1, Penn State Harrisburg 10

Venue: Nittany Field

Records: Wilson 3-12-1, 2-2 UE; Penn State Harrisburg, 15-8, 4-0 UE

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Chase Supensky (Sr., Baltimore, Md. / Towson) got into some trouble early as the Lions scored three runs on two hits, but he quickly settled down afterwards to stymy the hosts. Another Harrisburg run came through in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0 after a walk and a triple.
  • Most of Wilson's offense came in the seventh inning. The Phoenix were able to load the bases which set up Cody Valentine (Jr., Fairfield, Pa. / St. Andrews) who reached on an infield single which brought in Seth Bivens (Sr., Hancock, Md. / Hancock / Hagerstown C.C.). Thankfully for Wilson, an error allowed more damage to be done as a bad throw allowed Joe Nawrocki (So., Parkton, Md. / Calvert Hall) and Tyler O'Brien (So., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) to score. Unfortunately that would be it for the Wilson bats.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • Harrisburg got off to a similar start with three runs in the first. This time the Lions kept the bats heated up and added to their lead with runs in the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings. The lone Wilson run came in the top of the fifth when Zachary Tyler (FY, Colonia, N.J. / JFK Memorial) led off the inning with a home run to left.
Inside The Numbers
  • Despite the loss, Supensky still pitched an incredible game where he allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out five while going the distance.
  • Tyler had a solid game at the plate where he went a combined 3-for-5 on the day.
  • Samuel Martin (Jr., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) also registered three hits on the day with a 2-for-3 game in the opener.
Up Next
Wilson heads to Lexington, Va., to take on Washington & Lee in a non-conference affair. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
