Nightfall Knocks Out Winner As Phoenix, Knights Draw

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – As darkness fell, so did the curtain on a thriller as Wilson and New Jersey City battled to stalemate after nine innings. The Phoenix got off to a hot start with an early five run lead, but the Gothic Knights were able to come back and tie the game in the middle innings.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 9, NJCU 9

Venue: Henninger Field

Records: Wilson 0-5-1, NCJU 1-1-1

How It Happened
  • Wilson had all the momentum early as the Blue and White put up a five-spot in the first. A wild pitch led to the first run as Samuel Martin (Jr., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) scored from third. Justin Clapp (Jr., Redondo Beach, Calif. / Redondo Beach / Cal State Monterey Bay) then scored on a Garrett Drish (FY, Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) fielder's choice. Jake McFarland (FY, Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett) hit an infield single to score Jermane Miller (Jr., Wilmington, Del. / Alexis I. DuPont / Albright), and Joe Nawrocki (So., Parkton, Md. / Calvert Hall) hit a double to left to bring in McFarland.
  • After NCJU put a pair on the board in both the second and third, the Phoenix got them back in the fourth. Clapp singled down the first base line to score a pair while an error added another run. He later scored on a balk.
  • NCJU chipped away shortly after and tied the game after two in the fifth and three in the sixth. Wilson had opportunities to go up late, but left the bases loaded in the eighth and a pair on base in the ninth.
Inside The Numbers
  • Nawrocki had an excellent game as he went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Martin, Clapp, and Ryan Turner (Sr., Brick, N.J. / Brick / Penn State Harrisburg) also had multiple hit games. Clapp had two's across the stat line with two walks, two RBI, and two runs scored in two at-bats.
