How It Happened (Match 1)
- Early miscues by the Mounties helped Wilson jump out to a 4-1 lead. The Phoenix kept pulling away from there as a 7-1 run fueled by kills from Scotty Zorn (FY, York, Pa. / Dallastown) and Ryan Koontz (Jr., York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) along with a Gaetano Davis (FY, York, Pa. / York Suburban) ace pushed the lead to 12-4. Mount Aloysius's best run came during a 5-1 stretch late in the set before a pair of errors and another Davis ace.
- Teams evenly split the first six points before Wilson took the lead for good with a 5-1 run sparked by kills from Jackson Wolfe (So., Abbottstown, Pa. / New Oxford) and Jacob McCoy (MB, York, Pa. / Spring Grove). The Mounties countered and made the score 8-7 and 10-8 before the Phoenix answered with kills from Demetrius Simmons (Sr., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) and Wolfe, a Mounties error, and a Satvik Sharma (So., Hummelstown, Pa. / Hershey) ace to make the score 14-8. Mount Aloysius was unable to get closer than four the rest of the way.
- A balanced start saw both teams even through the first 10 points before the Phoenix attack took control with three kills and an ace to take a 9-6 lead. After an error on the next point, Wilson used a dominating 7-1 stretch to take a 16-8 lead with a pair of Koontz kills and a Sharma ace. The Mounties scored seven of nine down the stretch, but Wilson was too far ahead by that point and took the sweep.
How It Happened (Match 2 vs. King's)
- Wilson came out on fire with the Phoenix attack hitting 54% in an opening set win. Simmons led the charge with a pair of kills in an early 4-0 lead before adding another to make the score 12-7. The Monarchs didn't go away quietly and stayed within four as late as 19-15, but kills from Wolfe, Koontz, and Zorn on the next three plays helped propel Wilson to a 1-0 lead.
- The Phoenix stayed hot in the second as they opened a 5-1 lead with a Simmons Wolfe block followed by kills Koontz and Wolfe. King's got back into contention with a 5-2 run and used a 7-1 stretch shortly after to take a 14-12 lead. However, Coach Aaron Hoke took a well-placed timeout and the Phoenix responded well with an 8-2 run to go back in front thanks to three points from Wolfe. The Blue and White remained in control and headed to the third with a 2-0 lead.
- With momentum fully on its side, Wilson jumped out to a 6-1 lead with Koontz, Wolfe, and Zorn all getting kills. Simmons and Wolfe also got a block during the stretch to disrupt the Monarchs attack. Wilson got stronger from there and went up 10 as early as 18-8. The Phoenix ended up closing the day in style scoring six of the final eight points.
