How It Happened (Match 1)
  • A good start helped Wilson take early control as a Hannah Pollard (FY, Wilmington, N.C. / Wilmington Christian) Alison Daniels (Jr., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) block, an Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) kill, and a Michaela Windisch (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) ace helped put the Phoenix up 6-2. They got stronger from there when another Moreland kill sparked a 7-0 run capped by another Moreland kill and three Moreland aces for a 15-4 lead. A block by Riley Cramer (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) put the finishing touches on the frame for a 1-0 Wilson lead.
  • After Keystone took the second and third, Wilson needed to stay alive with a fourth set win. With the set tied at 18-all, Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) and Daniels scored back-to-back kills to put the Phoenix up for good. The Giants scored the next point, but the Phoenix answered with the next four to make it 24-19. A Keystone error gave them the set and forced the fifth. Momentum appeared to still be on Wilson's side as back-to-back blocks by Daniels and Pollard tied the fifth at 13-all, but a kill and an ace by the Giants gave them the match.
How It Happened (Match 2)
  • In the first, Wilson stayed with the Pacers at the start as Lichty laid down a kill to make it 12-11 in favor of Marywood. However, the Pacers answered with a 9-1 run and never looked back to take a 1-0 lead. After a 4-1 start in the second, Marywood excelled in the middlegame and to take the lead on a 6-1 run. A 5-1 run later gave them a 20-14 lead and the Phoenix were unable to recover. An 8-1 run in the third gave them a 13-8 lead and the Pacers held on to the momentum pendulum the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
  • Lichty and Moreland paced the offense with 19 kills each on the day. Lichty led the Phoenix in the opening match while Moreland had a baker's dozen.
  • Defensively Pollard was busy up front and added to her league-leading block total with 12 more rejections, eight of which came in the opener against Keystone. Daniels and Cramer both had six against the Giants.
  • Addie Hebert (Sr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) led the back line with 27 digs on the day, 19 of which came against the Giants. Lichty was also strong against Keystone with 17 digs.
