Men's Soccer Spectacular In Shutout On Senior Day

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – It was a spectacular Senior Day for the Wilson men's soccer team as it shutout Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon. A trio of seniors – Eric Arbogast (Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg), Bryson Curtis (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton), and Gerson Navarro (Manassas Park, Va. / Manassas Park) – were pivotal in the result as well. Arbogast and Curtis each found the back of the net in the first half while Navarro helped give the Phoenix a clean sheet with 10 saves on the day.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 2, Penn State Berks 0

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 2-9-2, 2-4 UE; Penn State Berks 2-12-2, 1-5-0 UE

How It Happened
  • It didn't take long for the Phoenix to light up the scoreboard as Jordan DeVincent (Sr., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) set up Arbogast on a pin-point centering pass in the 10th minute. Dribbling down the right side of the goal, DeVincent sent the ball in near the end line where it reached Arbogast crashing the net. Arbogast was able to get just enough of a touch on it to flick it inside the near post for the goal.
  • Jace Williams (Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) set up the next goal nearly 20 minutes later. After winning a battle for the ball about 30 yards in front of the goal, he was able to take the ball up the left side before lobbing a centering pass towards the middle. This time Curtis crashed the net and flicked it in with a header in the 29th minute.
  • Berks didn't go away quietly and tested the Wilson defense throughout the contest. Navarro was solid and consistent throughout the game, however, and evenly split 10 saves between both halves.
Inside The Numbers
  • Berks led the shot count 24-18 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks were even at 5-5.
  • The shutout was Navarro's third of the season.
