Strong Day By Lichty Not Enough To Life Phoenix Over Seahawks

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) reached double-figures on the attack, but it wasn't enough as Wilson was defeated by St. Mary's in straight sets on Saturday's United East tilt. Although the Seahawks took the contest, the Phoenix showed spurts of great play and threatened to take a couple sets from the visitors.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 0, St. Mary's 3 (25-16, 25-11, 25-20)

Venue: Gannett Memorial Field House

Records: Wilson 1-16, 0-4 UE; St. Mary's 13-5, 4-0 UE

How It Happened
  • Despite a 4-0 start by St. Mary's, Wilson had an excellent start to the day and eventually tied the frame at seven. Shortly after a 5-0 run with kills from Lichty and Hannah Pollard (FY, Wilmington, N.C. / Wilmington Christian) gave the Phoenix a 14-11 lead. Unfortunately, things went south for the Phoenix from there as St. Mary's reeled off the next four points to take the lead and went on to win the set with a 14-2 run. That momentum fed into the second where the Seahawks had little trouble in taking the second set.
  • Wilson didn't quit, however, and showed a lot of fight in the third. Kills from Pollard and Lichty gave the Phoenix some early fire, while additional kills from Sydney Tracey (So., York, Pa. / Dallastown / Penn State Mont Alto) and Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) kept Wilson ahead in the middle stages. A 4-0 swing by St. Mary's put the visitors back in front 15-12, and while the Phoenix were able to stay close, they were unable to tie it from there as St. Mary's closed the contest.
Inside The Numbers
  • Lichty lead all players with 10 kills. Julia Bobrowski paced the Seahawks with seven.
  • Defensively Addie Hebert (Sr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) put together a solid day with 14 digs for match-high honors.
