Men's Soccer Falls At Mary Baldwin

(STAUNTON, Va.) – The final men's soccer non-conference game of the season saw Wilson fall to Mary Baldwin on the pitch Tuesday afternoon. Jordan DeVincent (Sr., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) was able to find the back of the net for the Phoenix as an answer to a pair of goals by the Fighting Squirrels late in the first half, but MBU was able to add an insurance goal in the second half while keeping the Blue and White at bay in the second.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 1, Mary Baldwin 3

Venue: SMA Worth Field

Records: Wilson 0-6-2, 0-1-0 United East; Mary Baldwin 4-4-1, 0-1-0 USA South

How It Happened
  • Both teams went shot-for-shot in the first half until Mary Baldwin eventually broke the scoring with a score by Isaiah Morris in the 29th minute. Lightning struck twice for the Squirrels who found the back of the net once again off the foot of Jayden Davis. Wilson had a great chance to score on a set piece just after that as Tyler Cottone (Sr., Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley) put a shot on target on a corner kick, but DeVincent found the back of the net just five minutes later for a 2-1 deficit at the break.
  • Wilson's offense was held in check for most of the second, but the Phoenix did find some chances midway through the frame. Jace Williams (Sr., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory), Lenin Cinco (Sr., Chantilly, Va. / Westfield), and Wes Reall Jr. (So., Carlisle, Pa. / Big Spring) all took shots, but only Reall's was on goal and saw the save from MBU's netminder. The Squirrels went on the attack not long after and eventually added an insurance goal in the 84th minute.
Inside The Numbers
  • Wilson outshot Mary Baldwin by a 10-9 count, but the Squirrels reversed roles in shots on goal and led Wilson 8-7.
  • Corner kicks also favored Wilson by a 7-5 margin.
