Women's Hoops Fall On Road At Penn

(WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.) – It was a tale of two halves for the Wilson women's basketball team as it fell to Penn in United East action on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix used a strong second quarter run to take a lead into the halftime break, but the Wildcats countered with an explosive second half to vault ahead and take the victory.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 49, Penn 74

Venue: Bardo Gymnasium

Records: Wilson 7-7, 2-2 United East; Penn 11-5, 3-1 United East

How It Happened
  • After Penn built up an 18-10 lead after one, the Phoenix started to surge in the second. Following a Wildcats layup to open the frame, Chelcie Forrester led the charge with a layup on a dish from Lae Black. Two minutes later she added another, this time on a feed from Jewels Torres, to cut Penn's lead to six. While Penn scored the next two buckets, a 12-2 run by Wilson capped by yet another Forrester bunny on an assist from Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon tied the game up at 26-all. After a Wildcats free throw, Caldwell-Degnon sank a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left in the half to give the Phoenix the lead. A layup by Leah Laubach put Wilson up four before the Wildcats closed the frame with a couple of free throws.
  • The third quarter started with a 6-0 Wildcats, but Wilson answered with a couple of Caldwell-Degnon free throws and a Laubach jumper from Forrester to knot things up at 35. Unfortunately, the momentum didn't last long as Penn closed the quarter on a 13-3 run. The hosts opened the fourth quarter with a pair of 3-pointers to extend the lead and remained ahead by double-digits the rest of the way.
