Venue: Bardo Gymnasium
Records: Wilson 5-11, 1-3 United East; Penn 3-12, 2-2 United East
How It Happened
- It was a close contest for most of the afternoon, although the hosts did appear to pull away midway through the first. After a 3-pointer by Reese made it 22-19 with 10:20 to go, Penn went on an 11-0 run which resulted in its largest lead of the game. The Phoenix were able to respond and scored the next eight in a span of 1:47. Later in the half, Davis sank a 3-pointer to pull within three at 41-38 with 2:42 to go before the half. Wilson ended up going into the break down 47-44.
- Wilson jumped out to a solid start at the beginning of the second frame and took the lead on a midrange jumper by Armani Jones that made the score 52-51. The lead exchanged hands three additional times before a fast break layup by Pierce following a steal, a Bowie jumper, and a Bowie layup made the score 73-68, the largest of the night for the Phoenix.
- Penn answered with an 8-0 run to regain the lead. The Wildcats pushed it to eight points on a few occasions with the last one coming at 93-85 after a pair of free throws. From there, Wilson was able to tie the game with a pair of Bowie foul shots and a couple of Winston Raford 3-pointers. The Phoenix had a chance for the win, but a 3-pointer missed and the rebound went out of bounds with five seconds left leaving Penn the opportunity it needed to take the win.
