Men's Soccer Falls To McDaniel In Midweek Matchup

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Set pieces were the difference in the game as Wilson fell to McDaniel in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix held the Green Terror scoreless for a half before the visitors converted on a pair of corner kicks to provide the difference in the game.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, McDaniel 2

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 0-3, McDaniel 3-0

How It Happened
  • The opening half was largely physical and defensive with neither team able to generate a shot for the first 25 minutes despite a couple of early corner kicks for the Green Terror. A pair of shots came in the 26th minute with Logan Neves (Jr., Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) making the save on the latter to keep the game scoreless. Brian Plamp (So., Locust Grove, Va. / Orange County) and Omar Cortez (So., Columbia, Tenn. / Spring Hill) were able to fire off shots for the Phoenix, but Plamp's was saved and Cortez's was off the mark to keep things even.
  • McDaniel eventually struck on a corner kick eight minutes into the second half. Noah Rodriguez took the initial kick which connected with Kristerson Mitchell who flicked it on to Carver Neary. Neary and Rodriguez weren't finished as the duo connected again in the 69th minute with Rodriguez sending the ball in again and Neary putting the finishing touch into the net.
  • The Blue and White had a pair of chances to get on the board afterwards, but touches by Eric Arbogast (Jr., Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg) in the 78th minute and Jace Williams (Jr., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) in the 85th were both controlled by McDaniel netminder Tate Roth.
Inside The Numbers
  • McDaniel controlled possession for the bulk of the game and outshot the Phoenix 13-4 overall and 8-3 in shots on goal.
  • Neves did well to keep the Phoenix in the game with six saves on the day.
Up Next
The Phoenix will make the short trek east to take on Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday. Kickoff with the Nittany Lions is set for 1 p.m.
