(KEUKA PARK, N.Y.) – Kate Seymour (Jr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) saw more goals than she ever has before as she scored four in Wilson's win at Keuka on Saturday. The standout junior scored a natural hat trick in the third quarter alone to open the scoring before adding her fourth in the fourth along with an assist on another score.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 5, Keuka 0
Venue: Jephson CAC
Records: Wilson 3-5, Keuka 0-8
How It Happened
- Saturday's contest with the Wolves played similar to Wednesday's game at Eastern Mennonite in that the Phoenix controlled the game from the start, but it took until the second half to open the flood gates. The Blue and White tested the Wolves' goalie throughout and started off with seven shots in the first, four of which needed saves. The second quarter played closer with Wilson garnering just two additional shots, while Keuka was able to get one of its own. All were stopped resulting in a 0-0 game at the half.
- That score didn't last long as Seymour started the scoring just 33 seconds in on an assist from Haley Hamrick (So., Taneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) who raced up the middle before finding Seymour on the left side. Hamrick had an additional pair of shots along with one from Lizzie Landon (Sr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) before Seymour made it 2-0 on a breakaway up the right side with 5:01 to go in the quarter. Seymour completed the quarter hat trick with 2:04 to go on a helper from Landon who fired in the ball at the top of the circle on a penalty corner.
- The Phoenix remained on fire in the fourth and made it 4-0 with Seymour's next score 4:44 into the frame with Landon once again providing the assist in similar fashion, this time from further out from the top of the circle. Seymour wasn't finished and assisted on the final goal which was scored by Mia Brunet (Sr., Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) with 7:39 to go in the game. Given her threat on the attack, Seymour was able to draw the defense to the right side leaving Brunet wide open and centered in front of the cage. The pass to the middle was perfect and Brunet hammered it home to the left side for the score.
Inside The Numbers
- Seymour's four-goal, nine-point day are the most for the Phoenix since Alexis Pflumm pulled off the feat against Ferrum on September 21, 2022. The four goals are tied for fourth-most in a single game nationally this season.
- After today, Seymour vaulted her point total on the season to 20.
- Landon had her third multiple point game of the season.
- Wilson improved to 4-2 all-time against the Wolves. It was the first meeting between the two schools since the Phoenix defeated their former conference rival 2-1 in the 2018 CSAC semifinals.
- Brunet scored a point for the second consecutive game.
- Hannah Bost (Jr., Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central), Jade Syto (Jr., Newark, Del. / Christiana), and Madison Hamrick (So., Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) helped lock down things on the defensive end. Together they helped the defense only allow one shot by the Wolves on the day. Erin Sullivan (So., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) made the save and Ashley Welker (FY, Norfolk, Va. / Maury) spelled her in the second half to share the shutout.
